Hartheim Castle in the 1960ies

the picture shows children playing in front of the castle in the 1960s. At that time the castle was used as a residential building. How did/does our society deal with historical places? What were/are the reasons for collective silence and the negation of responsibility, or the other way around: what are the social and political prerequisites needed to enable individual and social remembrance and debate?
